SEIU organizes janitors rally in Milwaukee
July 30, 2009
MILWAUKEE, WI — The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1 is organizing a rally for janitors today in downtown Milwaukee, according to The Business Journal of Milwaukee.
More than 100 janitors are expected to practice their First Amendment rights and urge U.S. Senator Herb Kohl to support legislation making quality health care affordable for working families, the story stated.
The SEIU, which represents the janitors, claims that millions of Americans are at risk of seeing health insurance become unaffordable and ultimately unattainable, the story noted.
Though the janitors who clean downtown Milwaukee office buildings reached a tentative one-year agreement in their recent contract negotiations with building owners, skyrocketing health care costs are working against efforts to improve janitors'' jobs, the story added.
According to the story, the only way to ensure quality care for future hardworking Americans is to push for health care reform legislation.
