Over the past year, the SEIU accused the nurses of sabotaging organization efforts of 8,300 hospital workers in Ohio, and the CNA accused SEIU officials of stalking and harassing its leaders, the story stated.
SEIU President Andrew Stern said: "We spent a lot of time watching each other and at times competing with each other, and now we think it’s the right time to work together."
The 1.8-million-member SEIU represents 80,000 nurses and the CNA represents 85,000 nurses, the story noted.
As part of their agreement, the SEIU and the Nurses Association will seek to unionize several hospitals nation-wide, the story added.
According to the story, nurses from those hospitals will join the CNA and other hospital employees will join the SEIU.
