School remembers custodian gone too soon

May 25, 2012

BRISTOL, RI — Mt. Hope High School remembers a beloved custodian, months after his untimely death at the age of 60, according to East Bay RI.

Glendon "Glen" Shorey was the night custodian at the high school for nine years, a position that made him a staple at many nighttime school activities, the article stated.

According to the article, on March 14, after Shorey passed away unexpectedly, the students, faculty and staff dedicated a bench to serve as a memorial; the bench will read: "For Glen Shorey, who encouraged and loved our students."

"Glen became so much more than a familiar face to us," said teacher Carol Schlink.

"He was a champion for the performing arts, freely giving us all, teachers and students alike, words of encouragement, praise and wisdom, along with many large pizzas to help us get through rehearsals," Schlink added.
