School goes for outsourcing option
HASTINGS, MI — Hastings Area Schools have decided to privatize custodial services district wide, according to The Grand Rapids Press.
The board of education has authorized negotiations with Key Cleaning of Hastings for a three-year, $1.55 million dollar contract, the article stated.
According to the article, the board noted that continuing to contract with current district custodians would cost nearly $2.6 million over the next three years.
"It''s a sad day for the district when we have to take this action toward privatization. It''s going to impact families in a very unpleasant way. It is regrettable and unfortunate. But, in my opinion from a business perspective, we had no other choice," said board member Eugene Haas.
