HOUSTON — Travis Elementary School remains closed today while custodians deep clean the building after 12 students were diagnosed with H1N1 influenza (swine flu), according to KHOU-TV.
Epidemiologists with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are scheduled to tour Travis Elementary and help advise area school officials and local leaders on current and future outbreaks, the story stated.
According to the story, Travis Elementary is to remain closed until at least Tuesday, May 26, leaving only three days until the end of the school year.
The extensive cleaning is part of a joint plan by the Houston Independent School District (HISD), lawmakers and the CDC to help calm the concerns of parents, the story noted.
Parents are strongly cautioned to monitor their children and take the necessary precautions, including frequent and proper hand-washing, to ensure they do not contract and spread the virus, the story added.
