School board to save money through outsourcing
SAGINAW, MI — Saginaw Public Schools will save nearly $1 million a year by contracting out custodial and maintenance services, according to The Saginaw News.
The district approved a three-year contract with Sodexo Group, choosing the France-based contractor over the local CaravanKnight Facilities Management LLC, the article stated.
According to the article, CaravanKnight''s vice president of finance was "thoroughly disappointed" in the board’s decision.
Despite protests, the school board unanimously voted to award Sodexo, which also maintains with the Buena Vista School District, the contract, the article noted.
As a result, at least 10 custodians, who had been previously laid off, will have the opportunity to be rehired by the contractor, the article added.
