School board seeks bids for privatization
NORTHVILLE, MI — What was once only an idea for the Northville Public School District, is now more of a reality, according to the Observer & Eccentric.
The board of education has begun to issue request for proposals (RFPs) from private cleaning companies, the article stated.
According to the article, the district has decided to take a closer look at the privatization of several departments, including custodial and maintenance, in order to save their budget.
"We have to look at everything," said Board President Joan Wadsworth of the RFPs.
"There is really no choice. However, it must be said that this is in no way a reflection upon them or their work. These folks do a great job, and the district is very happy with their service," Wadsworth added.
Teamsters Local 214 union members, consisting of bus drivers, cafeteria workers and custodians, are protesting the decision, the article noted.
