Public comment period open for USGBC Forest Certification Benchmark

September 18, 2009
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently announced that the second public comment period for the proposed revisions to the USGBC Forest Certification Benchmark and related Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits is now open, according to a press release.
The public comment process, which is open to individuals from USGBC member and non-member organizations, allows the USGBC to independently determine and transparently indicate its expectation of any certification scheme if it is to earn recognition in LEED, the release stated.
According to the release, if significant, technical changes are made as a result of comments, an additional public comment period will be conducted on those changes.
Respondents are encouraged to submit comments on individual credits and include recommendations for resolving any identified concerns, including ways to improve the practicality of the criteria for a specific credit or ways to clarify the language of a specific requirement, the release noted.
The first public comment period garnered nearly 1,800 comments and the second public comment period will end October 14, 2009, at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST), the release added.
