Pioneer Building Services Achieves Green Seal™ GS-42 Certification
GS-42 is the nation’s highest standard for cleaning to protect health and the environment
Maryland – Pioneer Building Services, a Maryland-based janitorial company, recently became the fourth company in the Washington Metropolitan area to achieve the prestigious Green Seal GS-42 Certification for cleaning service providers. Green Seal is the leading, independent provider of certification and science-based standards for cleaning to protect health and the environment.
“There’s more to green than just choosing green cleaning products,” according to Mike McDougal, President of Pioneer Building Services. “We completed the Green Seal program because we believe it is our social responsibility to protect the health of our employees and the people who occupy the buildings we clean.”
According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 50 percent of all illnesses are either caused by or aggravated by Indoor Air Quality1. Following best practices for high-performance cleaning can result in five times fewer indoor air pollutants than conventional cleaning products and processes, and reduces Volatile Organic Compounds, which can cause respiratory problems and other health risks.
Pioneer managers and supervisors completed a 24-hour training program from the Building Wellness Institute, and the company underwent a detailed audit of its cleaning processes, procedures and business practices as part of the GS-42 certification process. “Pioneer has joined a growing list of cleaning service providers that have gone beyond green to help its clients add the protection of human health to their sustainability strategies,” said Marion Stecklow, Executive Director of the Building Wellness Institute.
