OSHA's new rules to exclude ergonomics

One of the most common causes for injuries, ergonomics, will not be included in the new rules; in fact, musculoskeletal disorders are not likely to be recognized as reportable ailments until 2012, the story stated.
OSHA''s five new rules will cover: Confined spaces in construction; general working conditions for shipyards; electric power transmission; hazard communications; and standards improvement, the story noted.
According to OSHA staffers, they also anticipate publishing finals for several whistle-blower regulations and estimate publishing a proposed rule for silica.
Unions were hoping OSHA would roll out its injury and illness program early in 2011, but pressure has already pushed it to late in the year, the story added.
