NYC seeking to recycle fixtures

March 16, 2012

NEW YORK — New York City officials are entertaining bids from companies to recycle old toilet fixtures, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The initiative is reportedly part of the city''s conservation program to replace old toilets with water-conserving models, the article stated.

According to the article, the city Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has said that it''s counterintuitive to have a program to conserve water that increases trash at landfills.

Toilets recycled by the new program could be crushed for reuse in building foundations, the article noted.
