Norovirus outbreak confirmed at state prison

BOISE, ID — The private Idaho Correctional Center has confirmed an outbreak of norovirus, according to a press release.
According to the release, cultures sent to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare tested positive for the virus that causes gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea.
The facility has been thoroughly cleaned with bleach and visitation of the prison will be closed until there is no further threat of the virus, the release stated.
Inmates that have been affected by the illness are being treated by medical staff and all efforts to contain the virus are being taken, the release added.
