The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, completed its $3.5 billion acquisition of Hughes Supply Inc., a leading business-to-business distributor of construction, repair and maintenance products, in April.
Feds OK Whirlpool takeover of Maytag and Hoover
Antitrust regulators in the U.S. Justice Department gave Whirlpool Corp. approval to merge with Maytag Corp., owner of the Hoover vacuum company.
The future of the Hoover company remains uncertain, and is the focus of an ongoing evaluation by Whirlpool executives.
Filmop buys U.S. distributor
Italian JanSan manufacturer Filmop S.r.l. has acquired Conroe, TX-based HPC Cleaning Innovation LLC, following an exclusive distribution agreement between the two companies.
The newly formed HPC Cleaning Innovations LLC (HPCC)/Filmop Group is headquartered in Conroe.
EnvirOx names sales managers
EnvirOx LLC, a Danville, IL-based manufacturer of cleaning products, promoted Larry Lopata to national sales manager and hired Craig Puma as Western regional sales manager.
Lopata, who joined EnvirOx in July 2003, has extensive experience in sales and the JanSan industry, while Puma came to the company with sales and marketing experience with both manufacturers and manufacturer’s representative firms.
Dow CEO becomes board chairman
Dow Chemical Company CEO Andrew N. Liveris assumed the reponsibilities of chairman of the board for the Midland, MI-based manufacturer.
Liveris, a 30-year Dow veteran, replaced William S. Stavropoulos as chairman.
Eco Concepts hires JanSan director
Eco Concepts Inc. of Minneapolis, which manufactures cleaning products under the Green Concepts and Econatural brands, named industry veteran Jerry Hallmark director of JanSan Business.
U.S. Products hires Deming as sales director
U.S. Products of Coeur d’Alene, ID, hired Kevin Deming as the company’s regional sales director for the western half of the United States.
Deming is a 30-year JanSan industry veteran and has held senior management positions with leading manufacturers like Advance Machine Co., Continental Manufacturing, and Ecolab.
Jones named custodian of year at BSCAI
Charles Jones, a 22-year custodian for Mitch Murch’s Maintenance Management Company, St. Louis, MO, received the Custodian of the Year Award at the 41st annual BSCAI convention and trade show in Nashville.
The award, sponsored by Hillyard, included a $1,000 cash prize, a plaque and a medallion, and airfare and hotel accommodations for the convention.
Giuliani to speak at ISSA’s Chicago convention
ISSA has announced that former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani will be the keynote speaker at this year’s ISSA/INTERCLEAN convention in October in Chicago.
Drawing on his 30-plus years of public service and management consulting, Giuliani will speak on "Principles of Leadership.”
Munters promotes Reesby to VP
Roland Reesby was named vice president of operations for Munters Moisture Control Services (MCS), a division of Munters AB.
Reesby, who joined Munters in 1986, will oversee sales and support functions, direct day-to-day operations, and coordinate global account initiatives from the firm’s Los Angeles office.
MicroMain promotes Conroy
MicroMain Corporation, an Austin, TX-based provider of asset and facility management software and services, promoted John Conroy to vice president of services and training.
Conroy will work to expand service offerings for users — who include maintenance technicians and supervisors, facility staff and managers, and people responsible for capital planning — of MicroMain’s software suite.
