United Stationers buys Sweet Paper

Lagasse, Inc. — a subsidiary of Des Plaines, IL-based United Stationers Inc. — completed purchases of Sweet Paper Corp. stock and substantially all of the assets of Sweet Paper Group, Hialeah, FL, in a cash transaction.

The acquisition of provides 10 additional distribution facilities to augment the 24 facilities in Lagasse''s nationwide network.

LG takes aim at Dyson vacs

Seoul, Korea-based LG Electronics, Inc. launched a new talking vacuum cleaner — a Ā£200 flagship model of the LG Cyking range.

The talking element of the vacuum cleaner comes into force when the machine is turned on and when the bin is ready to be changed.

CIRI surpasses funding goals

Kimberly-Clark Professional, Roswell, GA, became a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), primarily to support the advancement of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Program for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) by sponsoring seminars and participating in the USGBC''s annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo.

Dulles, VA-based group purchasing organization NISSCO, LLC purchased the 45-distributor member Star Group, Round Rock, TX.

Additionally, NISSCO President Keith B. Marcoe presented Eric Cadell of Dutch Hollow Janitorial Supplies, Inc., Belleville, IL, the 2005 NISSCO Scholarship Award — designed to recognize academic achievement from individuals who intend to make their career in the JanSan industry.

P&G expands hotel cleaning business

Procter & Gamble and Coverall Cleaning Concepts'' joint effort to offer outsourced cleaning services to the hospitality industry has expanded to the Cincinnati region.

The Best Western Mariemont Inn and the Wingate Inn in West Chester are among the first Ohio establishments to sign on for Procter & Gamble Professional Services, which handles in-room cleaning and laundry, payroll, workers'' compensation, and staff management.

Texas school wins Gazelle

The Pioneer Eclipse Corporation, Sparta, NC, presented Texas-based Alvin Independent School District Operations Manager and Facilities Coordinator Ruben Aguirre with a Gazelle Electric Burnisher.

Aguirre was randomly selected to receive the ultra-high speed floor burnisher after completing CM/Cleaning & Maintenance Management magazine''s In-House Benchmarking Survey sponsored by Pioneer Eclipse.

ProTeam partners with ALA

ProTeam, Inc., Boise, ID, received the President''s Circle Award for its support of indoor air quality (IAQ) education at the American Lung Association''s 2005 National Leadership Awards Ceremony.

Alan Mighton recently advanced to the position of regional manager of the Northeast Ohio/Cleveland Region of Spartan Chemical Company, Inc., Maumee, OH.

D&A names execs

Altamonte Springs, FL-based D&A Building Services, Inc. named Douglas L. Ledford to the newly created position of North Florida branch manager.

D&A also opened a Midwest Branch office in Toledo, OH, overseen by Gary Kepler, a Central Florida D&A manager since 2001.

Sysco president/COO to retire

President and chief operating officer of Houston-based Sysco Corp. Thomas E. Lankford will retire from the company in July.

Chairman and Chief Executive Richard J. Schneiders will assume the additional role of president.

Technical Concepts appoints exec

Jack Vresics has been named president and chief executive officer of Technical Concepts, LLC, Mundelein, IL.

Vresics replaces George Patrick Murphy, who resigned from the post, but will remain a consultant to the company.
