IAQA installs officers, directors
The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) installed newly elected officers and directors at its recent annual meeting in Tampa, FL.

The officers, elected to one-year terms, are Andrew Ask, president; Carl Grimes, first vice president; Ian Cull and Joseph Hughes Jr., vice presidents; Wane Baker, treasurer; and Glenn Fellman, secretary.

Directors, elected to three-year terms, are Ask, Kent Rawhouser, and Derrick Denis.

SCA Tissue promotes two
JanSan manufacturer SCA Tissue of North America has promoted two executives to vice president.

Fred Albrecht, a six-year veteran of SCA, is the new vice president of continuous improvement.

Joseph Russo, a 15-year SCA veteran, is the new vice president of sales and distribution for North America.

Albrecht and Russo will also be members of SCA’s Senior Leadership Team.

Malish hires sales VP
Willoughby, OH-based JanSan manufacturer The Malish Corporation has hired Fred Lombardi as vice president of sales and marketing.

Lombardi has 28 years of experience in the cleaning and maintenance industry and previously worked in sales management positions for Specialty Chemical Resources/Hi Port Aerosol and Zenex International.

ZEP promotes two execs
Atlanta-based JanSan manufacturer Zep Inc. has hired presidents for two of its eight reorganized business units.

Robert Droke will be president of Zep Central and will have primary responsibility for Zep’s operations in the Southwest and Central Plains states.

Lisa Malloy will be president of Zep Retail and will have primary responsibility for the company’s retail business.

Atlas promotes manufacturing VP
JanSan manufacturer Atlas Paper Mills of Hialeah, FL, has promoted Roberto Gonzalez to vice president of manufacturing.

Gonzalez had been working as vice president of operations for the manufacturer of 100-percent recycled content toilet paper, facial tissue and paper towels.


Staples to buy Corporate Express
Staples has succeeded in its takeover bid for international office and JanSan supplies distributor Corporate Express, whose board has unanimously approved a buyout at €9.25 (about $14.39) a share.

This is the third time that Staples has raised its bid, which started at €7.25 in February, was raised to €8 last month, and to €9.15 earlier this month.

The overall purchase price is €1.7 billion (about $2.65 billion).

Corporate Express CEO Peter Ventress will become president of Staples International and oversee business outside of North America.

As part of the deal, Corporate Express will drop its plan to acquire French rival Lyreco SAS.

Stakeholders reject GS-37
Green Seal’s draft revised GS-37 standard for institutional and industrial cleaning products has been rejected by a majority of voting stakeholders.

Of 101 votes, 53 opposed the draft revised standard.

ISSA had voted against the draft revisions, largely because of concerns about the handling of asthmagens, dispensing control systems, VOC limits, and concentrates.

Green Seal will now work with stakeholders to try to resolve their concerns; as a result, the final GS-37 standard will not be ready until later this year.

ISSA, CIRI to work on school cleaning standard
ISSA and the Cleaning Industry Research Institute (CIRI) officially launched a cooperative project to develop a science-based cleaning standard for K-12 schools during CIRI’s annual symposium last month.

CIRI will conduct the research through a Cleaning Standards Science Committee, with the goal of coming up with a formal certification standard for school cleaning.

CIRI will present a preliminary update on the project at ISSA/INTERCLEAN North America in Las Vegas in September.

Dade paper expands again
Miami-based JanSan distributor Dade Paper has acquired two distributors in Dothan, AL — Houston Paper and Janitorial Supply and Emerald Coast Janitorial and Paper.

Seventeen Houston and Emerald employees will be working from Dade’s distribution center in Loxley, AL, and Dade plans to hire six more people there.

In 2004, Dade acquired two other southern Alabama distributors — Paper Products of Mobile and Baldwin Paper.
