ISSA elects board officers, members
Members of JanSan trade association ISSA recently elected several board officers and members.

Robert Stahurski of NYCO Products is the new vice president and president-elect and David Sikes of Sikes Paper Co. is the new treasurer.

Alan Tomblin of Procter & Gamble Co. is the new manufacturer director; Ken Bodie of Kelsan Inc. is the new distributor director-South; and James Sugarman of Eastern Bag & Paper Co. is the new distributor director-North.

ISSA certifies more CIMS experts
ISSA has announced the second group of people to have earned certification as experts in its Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS), which codifies universally accepted principles of well-managed and customer-centered cleaning organizations.

Certified CIMS experts can provide training and consulting on how to comply with the new standard; to earn certification, they attended a one-day workshop and passed an examination.

The newly certified CIMS experts are: Bill Andrae of Pike Systems; James Ammons and Keith Angel, both of Angel-Cotton Associates; Carlos Bennetts and Manuel Castro, both of Servicios Profesionales Suro; Bill Bestmann and John Everett, both of Stearns Packaging Corp.; Gerardo Caballero of Key Quimica; Darrell Campbell and Paul Goldin, both of Avmor; and Scott Carpenter, Jim Finnegan, and Joe Wysocki, all of Team 1 Sales.

Phillips returns to ARCSI
The founder of the Association of Residential Cleaning Services International (ARCSI) has returned as executive director of the trade group, which has severed its arrangement with association management firm Kellen Co.

ARCSI founder Perry Phillips had retired as executive director and assumed a part-time consultant role in January, when Kellen was retained.

Malish hires engineering expert
JanSan manufacturer The Malish Corporation of Willoughby, OH, has hired Jerry Schemm as engineering project manager.

Schemm will primarily work on designing products and overseeing projects for Malish’s growing business in China.

A graduate of Kansas State University, Schemm comes to Malish from a similar position with the Fuller Brush Company.

Southeastern Paper promotes IT director
JanSan distributor Southeastern Paper Group has promoted Lewis Mann to director of information technology.

Mann, a graduate of the University of South Carolina who joined Southeastern in 2000, succeeds Stan Harris, who retired after 20 years with Southeastern.

SMA elects first board
Oak Brook, IL-based Strategic Market Alliance (SMA), a member-owned cooperative comprised of janitorial, sanitation, food service and industrial packaging distributors, has elected its first board of directors.

SMA members elected Ken Hallat, president of Janitors’ Warehouse, as chairman; Bill Hirsch, president of Fulton Paper Company, as vice chairman/secretary; and David Leavy, president of City Supply Company, as treasurer.


APPA offers new credential
APPA, an association of educational facilities professionals, will begin offering a new credential, Education Facilities Professional (EFP).

Training and testing for the EFP credential will take place on September 14 and 15 in Phoenix, and on February 8 and 9 in Newport Beach, CA. For information, log on to

In other APPA news, Alan Bigger, director of building services at the University of Notre Dame, has been named APPA president.

Bigger has been an active member of APPA for more than 20 years, traveling and speaking on behalf of the organization.

Mohawk to authorize cleaners
Mohawk Industries of Adairsville, GA, plans to establish authorized service centers across the country under the Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Professional brand.

The centers will provide a full spectrum of floor care services, including carpet cleaning, hardwood refinishing, tile and grout cleaning, and area rug cleaning, using industry-approved equipment and products.

This is the first time that Mohawk has allowed its name to be used by independent cleaning firms.
