New law allows for kiddie janitors
BOISE, ID — A new state law will allow public schools to employ children under the age of 14 as janitors, according to the Times-News.
The move is not sitting well with current janitorial staff members who fear the law will jeopardize their positions, the article stated.
According to the article, the legislation was not introduced to take jobs away from school employees, but to help children from low-income families.
With the consent of a legal guardian, students under the age of 14 would be able to work up to 10 hours a week, the article noted.
