November 9, 2010
OVERLAND PARK, KS — North American Salt Company (NASC), a subsidiary of Compass Minerals, today announced the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the Design for the Environment (DfE) label to one of the company''s packaged ice melter products, according to a press release.
Safe Step® Pro Series® 960 Choice Formula ice melter now will carry the DfE label, indicating that the product meets the EPA''s criteria for environmental safety, the release noted.
"The DfE label ensures that the designated product is on the green end of the health and environment spectrum," said Jerry Bucan, vice president and general manager of NASC''s consumer and industrial business.
"The EPA has extremely stringent guidelines for considering a product for this label and we''re pleased that the agency recognized our Pro Series 960 Choice Formula for its low environmental impact and eco-friendly formula," Bucan added.
According to the release, the EPA''s DfE label is awarded after the agency''s review team has screened each ingredient contained in a product and found each to pose the least concern among chemicals in its class.
