Millionaire janitor must step down
SEATTLE — Janitor Tyrone Curry has been elected to the Highline School Board and must now step down from the job he loves and the team he coaches, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Curry, a janitor and coach on the Evergreen campus for more than 20 years, recently beat the sitting school board president for a seat on the board and must resign his positions before swearing in next month, the article stated.
According to the article, Curry has coached his entire life and is remiss to give it up now.
"It''s tough. Basketball season just started and this is the first time I''m not on the court. It bothers me," Curry said.
In 2006, Curry won a $3.4 million lottery jackpot, using that money to first care for his family, then buy the school new uniforms and put in a $40,000 new track, the article noted.
