The May issue of CM/Cleanfax® magazine is now available online, featuring Donna Scalfaro''s My Way article about her unique business strategy.
Scalfaro states that one of her biggest challenges is having people in the industry take her seriously. Being a woman in a predominantly male industry, she found that she needed to earn the respect of the industry.
She notes that she remembers buying her first major piece of equipment: "During the first two hours of the purchase, the vendor spent the entire time talking to my male technicians. He never addressed me once and would not even look at me. My technicians finally left the room so that he would be forced to talk directly to me. I knew this would be something I would be dealing with in the years to come."
Scalfaro adds that you should always take the time to ask questions and, more importantly, carefully listen to the answers. You will be surprised at what you can learn.
According to Scalfaro, working on your business is just as important as working at your business. Yes, there is a difference. Owning a business is not a 40 hour work week. It is a constant challenge with long days.
