The custodians will receive a 1 percent raise on the last day of the first year, a 1 percent increase at the six-month mark of the second year and an additional 1 percent raise at the 12-month mark of the second year, the story stated.
The contract, which expires at the end of the 2010-2011 school year, includes provisions for three paid days off the first year and two paid days off the second year, the story noted.
School Board member Robert Jome said: "In recognition of the difficult times that the district and all units of the government are finding themselves in, this a really gratifying thing that employees are willing to get on board and recognize the serious problems that we all are facing."
With the first-year pay freeze, no custodians will face layoffs; if necessary, employee reductions will be done through retirements and resignations, the story added.
