LEED Platinum-certified Center for Architecture

PORTLAND, OR — Portland''s Center for Architecture recently received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Platinum level, the highest available from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), according to Consulting-Specifying Engineer.
The center, which is home to both the Portland and Oregon chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), was designed by Holst Architecture, the story stated.
Sustainable aspects of the building include: Photovoltaic panels and roof turbines that generate power; a rainwater collection system for irrigation; energy-efficient lighting; and using recycled materials, the story noted.
After the renovation of the 120-year-old 10,000-square-foot building was complete, its carbon footprint was reduced by 82 percent, the story added.
