Laid-off custodians find jobs with new company

June 17, 2010
PENNSVILLE, NJ — When 25 custodial staffers were cut from the 2010-2011 Pennsville School District budget in March, the only consolation was the possibility of being rehired through an outsourced company, according to the Star-Ledger.
But returning as employees of the outside company, not the district, was not guaranteed, the article noted.
However, Pennsville''s new maintenance company, GCA Services Group, has found a way to bring back the custodial staff, the article stated.
According to the article, the district, which already made arrangements to outsource with GCA early this spring, signed a two-year renewable contract with the company: As of Monday, GCA Regional Manager Michael Burns said 27 candidates had been hired and screened.
That group includes individuals laid off by the district, the article added.
"So far, every Pennsville custodian who''s applied has been hired," said Burns.
"They have top priority," Burns concluded.
