Labor of love for custodian couple
February 12, 2009
WEST CHESTER, OH — The custodians at Liberty Early Childhood School share a unique bond with the students and themselves, according to The Western Star.
Paul and Patti Wiseman, who have been married for 18 years and have cleaned the school together for seven, think of the students as their own children and the school as a big, happy home, the story stated.
Wiseman said: "They call me Mr. Paul and her Miss Patti. They give us high fives and hugs. You can''t get that in any other jobs. We like to clean this building as if our own kids go here. We take pride in what we do. The kids pick up on that."
The custodian couple''s favorite part of the day is interacting with students; they give out awards for the cleanest classroom and work with students to empty the trash from each room, the story noted.
In addition to keeping the building clean and healthy, the couple acts as mentors for the students and even gives an occasional classroom presentation, the story added.
According to the story, the Wiseman''s have three children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, but if asked how many they feel they have, the answer is 606 — the number of students in the school plus their own.
