GALESBURG, IL — The Knox County courthouse will be evaluated by several asbestos abatement companies and consultant Johnson Building Systems Inc. to determine the cost to remove the carcinogenic substance from the courthouse, according to Justice News Flash.
According to the story, an expert consultant must go through the entire structure, review the location and condition of the asbestos and then develop a demolition and removal plan.
Five bids were submitted and the building committee voted 7-0 in acceptance of Graves Environmental Inc.''s bid of $2,785 to perform a complete evaluation of the toxic asbestos materials used in the construction of the courthouse, the story stated.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulates strict guidelines for contractors, construction workers, laborers and renovators regarding the handling, demolition and removal of asbestos-containing materials, the story noted.
