Janitors fight back
TEANECK, NJ — A union representing janitors who cleaned a Teaneck office complex before its owner switched to a contractor using non-union employees staged another demonstration on Monday, according to North Jersey.
Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) timed the latest demonstration to coincide with a conference held by the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, the article stated.
According to the article, the union is trying to draw attention to its members'' grievances towards management of the Glenpointe complex, who switched to non-union workers, who are paid significantly less for the same services, as of September 1.
Kevin Brown, state director of the local 32BJ, has also filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the article noted.
