Janitor to compete in Special Olympics
April 15, 2009
DUNCAN, OK — When he is not competing and winning awards in events such as shot put and the 50-yard dash, Paul Lawson earns a living as a janitor at the Chisholm Mall, according to the Duncan Banner.
Those who frequent the mall say Lawson takes his job seriously and works hard to ensure the mall stays clean and healthy, the story stated.
Gina Baker, general manager of Chisholm Mall, said: "He’s my buddy. He greets me every morning with a ''good morning Miss Gina.'' If there’s any dirt on the floor, he gets a broom out to clean it. He’s cool."
According to the story, before Lawson had a janitorial position with the mall he worked at the Re-run Junction Community Thrift Store inside the mall, but would still go into the hallways and bathrooms and clean.
At the request of an employee with Jerry''s Janitorial, the company that provides janitorial services at Chisholm Mall, Lawson was hired to clean the hallways and bathrooms he had already been cleaning out of goodwill; Lawson now has the additional duty of keeping the parking lot clean and free of debris, the story noted.
Lawson will attend the 2009 Oklahoma Special Olympics in Stillwater May 13-15 and hopes to win every event he enters, the story added.
