Janitor's flavorful creation a hit
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA — Since 1976, Richard Montañez had worked as a janitor at the Frito-Lay plant until he decided Cheetos needed a little something extra, according to Fox News Latino.
The idea, which would make him a legend, came to Montañez while he was eating a cup of corn, a dish consisting of corn, butter, cheese and chile; Montañez wondered what would happen if chile was added to the Cheeto, the article stated.
According to the article, Montañez used spices from his mother''s kitchen and made a test; his friends and co-workers loved it, he called up the president of the company and said he had an idea for a new product — that was the easy part.
The president loved the idea, giving way to the Flaming hot line of products, which includes Flamin'' Hot Cheetos, Frito-Lay''s top selling snack, the article noted.
While he began as a janitor, Montañez now leads multicultural sales and community promotions across PepsiCo''s North American divisions, the article added.
