Janitor pleads guilty in identity theft case
NEW ORLEANS — A former hospital janitor has plead guilty to charges of stealing confidential patient information and using it for personal gain, according to The Republic.
Federal prosecutors said Clyde Washington used his position as a janitor at the Ochsner Medical Center to steal printouts containing patients'' names, social security numbers, dates of birth and other personal information, the article stated.
According to the article, the data was used to open online accounts with retail and financial companies under the patients'' names.
Washington pleaded guilty to wrongfully disclosing protected patient information, the article noted.
