DAYTONA BEACH, FL — An office janitor who worked the night shift in several Ormond Beach city buildings is accused of cleaning cash out of employees'' desks and swiping a bulletproof vest from a police department equipment room, according to the News-Journal.
Corey P. Fontana, 41, of Holly Hill, admitted to the thefts when police revealed they had him under surveillance, the article noted.
The vest was brand new and assigned to a police officer who worked the midnight shift: He noticed it was missing January 26, two days after another officer placed it in the equipment room, still wrapped in its packaging, the article stated.
According to the article, Fontana was already a suspect in thefts from several other city properties, and police were watching him both "by electronic means and visual surveillance," and was arrested two days later.
Fontana admitted to police he had a drug problem and had taken money from desks throughout the city, the article added.
