Inmates sue over moldy conditions
January 12, 2009
CALDWELL, ID — A lawsuit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union last week against the Canyon County jail over unsanitary conditions including visible mold, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.
Inmates reported mold so extensive that cleaning supplies provided to remove it have proven inadequate; one inmate claims her unit was issued bleach to clean the mold only twice in eight months, the story stated.
Some inmates reported sore throats, headaches and respiratory infections due to prolonged mold exposure, the story noted.
A response to the allegations in the lawsuit is expected from the jail in the early part of the week, the story added.
