IICRC to develop S600 Carpet Installation Standard and Reference Guide
July 24, 2009
VANCOUVER, WA — The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoartion Certification (IICRC) has filed the proper notification with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and will begin drafting the S600 Carpet Installation Standard and Reference Guide, according to a press release.
The new standard is being sponsored by the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) and the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI), the release stated.
According to the release, James Mullins of Shaw Industries Inc. will chair the IICRC S600 Consensus Body Standard Committee and Barry Costa of Aspire Educational Institute will serve as the vice-chair.
The timeline for completion of the S600 is approximately 36 months, and the IICRC is now looking for industry volunteers to participate on the committee, which will meet approximately four times per year, the release noted.
IICRC Chairman Paul Pearce said: "Having WFCA and CRI involved in the creation of the standard is an example of how our industry works together to achieve the best result. We know that with their involvement, we will be able to create a standard for carpet installation that will be accepted across the industry. And, with industry veterans James Mullins and Barry Costa leading the committee, we know that the process will be upheld to the highest standards."
Membership in the IICRC S600 Consensus Body Standard Committee is open to all persons who are directly and materially affected by the standard activity in question, and participation in the committee is not conditional upon membership in any organizations, nor unreasonably restricted on the basis of technical qualifications or other such requirements, the release added.
