Hospitals drastically improve infection prevention

July 9, 2012

NASHVILLE, TN — Once upon a time, it was quite the gamble on whether or not a patient would catch a deadly infection while being treated at a Tennessee hospital, but no more, according to The Tennessean.

The improvement in infection control didn''t come from any kind of drug, rather enhanced handwashing practices by doctors and a strict checklist for nurses did the trick, the article stated.

According to the article, a report released by the Tennessee Department of Health has the state''s hospitals scoring 30 percent above the national benchmark for preventing infections.

The improvement ranks Tennessee at number four among states for patient safety on a national survey, the article noted.
