John Gayetsky Joins The Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI) Advisory Board

Boise ID - John Gayetsky has joined The Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI) Advisory Board. Gayetsky is the Environmental Management Specialist for the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO), providing consultative, training, and technical support services to school districts across the U.S. aimed at helping them build and operate more sustainable, higher performing educational facilities.

He is also the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Green Schools International (GSI), a firm specializing in delivering advice, training and technical support to school districts, and their owner representatives, engaged in new construction, addition, or renovation projects. Headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, Green Schools International is comprised of veteran architects, engineers, energy management specialists, green building experts, facility managers, and owner’s representatives committed to helping school districts across the U.S. build high performance schools.

John previously served as the senior industrial hygienist and engineer with the Indoor Environments Section of the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) in Columbus, Ohio, where he specialized in the recognition, evaluation, control and prevention of environmental health & safety problems in K-12 schools across Ohio. Prior to joining ODH in 1998, he spent seven years as a field safety engineer and industrial hygienist with the Ohio Division of Safety and Hygiene. There he consulted with clients from the industrial, educational, and commercial sectors resolving a wide range of occupational exposure issues.

He was the co-author of the administrative rules informing Ohio’s sweeping school environmental reform legislation known as Jarod’s Law. He provided technical support in the development of the Ohio customized version of U.S. EPA’s Healthy School Environments Assessment Tool (HealthySEAT) for distribution and use by school districts and local health departments throughout Ohio. He is a co-author of the revised Ohio School Inspection Manual and the Ohio School Inspection Protocol.

In his role as the Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools (TfS) Coordinator for ODH, John partnered with dozens of school districts - comprised of over 125 school buildings - from across Ohio committed to successfully implementing the TfS Program. He has also guided numerous Ohio school districts through the difficult process of successfully resolving a diversity of environmental health emergencies, many involving indoor mold. John has helped four of these districts earn National Excellence Awards from the U.S. EPA for their successful implementation of the TfS Program. For these accomplishments, John was honored with a Special Achievement Award from U.S. EPA at the 2003 National TfS Symposium in Washington D.C.

He is a recognized public speaker in Ohio and on the national stage, regularly addressing audiences on a wide range of topics spanning the field of school environmental health and safety. John has co-authored and taught two courses on occupational health and safety - Indoor Air Quality for Non-Industrial Settings and Basic Industrial Ventilation offered by the Ohio Center for Occupational Safety and Health. In addition, he authored and taught three courses on occupational safety and health at The Ohio State University.
