January 22, 2010
MUSKEGON, MINichols Paper & Supply, the largest independent distributor of cleaning, protection and packaging supplies in the state of Michigan, announced that Renae Hesselink has been elected the new chair for the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) of West Michigan, according to a press release.
According to the release, Hesselink, vice president of sustainability at Nichols and a LEED Accredited Professional (AP), has served in various roles over her 16 years at Nichols, which has submitted an application and is currently awaiting certification from the USGBC for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance (LEED EB-OM).
Hesselink also played a crucial role in the development of the Nichols Green Cleaning Program, which involves a comprehensive approach to cleaning with environmentally friendly products, educating customers on an ongoing basis and training building maintenance professionals and building occupants how to do their part in the health and safety of the environment, the release stated.
There are over 110 LEED buildings in West Michigan — best in the country for LEED buildings per capita — and 740 LEED APs in the area, the release added.
