Health center death due to Legionnaires' disease
WALNUT CREEK, CA — Experts are now testing Richmond Health Center''s water system after an employee died of Legionnaires'' disease, according to the Bellingham Herald.
While the system is being tested, the center remains open; no other cases of the disease have been identified, the article stated.
According to the article, it is not known where the medical records technician may have come in contact with Legionella, the bacteria responsible for the disease.
Since 2008, when another employee fell ill with the disease, the county has regularly disinfected the heating and cooling system in the building.
