Handwashing world record set

January 11, 2012

LONDON — Latin Americans have done their part in highlighting the importance of handwashing, setting a new world record, according to the European Cleaning Journal.

To mark Global Handwashing Day in October, a total of 740,870 people, mostly from Peru, Argentina and Mexico, washed their hands at the same time, the article stated.

According to the article, since then, Guinness World Records judges have been traveling to each of the countries involved to review registration forms, log handwashing times and count heads.

The event, staged in a hope to highlight the importance of handwashing in schools, was coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO), the article noted.
