The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) unveiled today its newly redesigned website, which offers builders and owners a blueprint for healthier structures that can safeguard against interior moisture and mold growth while minimizing the financial risk associated with mold damage.
Mold feeds on many of the materials used in building construction, and it can spread rapidly in damp conditions. When mold grows on building materials, it actually digests the materials, destroying surfaces, releasing toxic chemicals and weakening underlying structures — resulting not only in unhealthy indoor environments, but also severe economic loss.
"Taking the appropriate steps to prevent mold growth before it occurs is critical for builders and owners—from both a health and a financial perspective," said Henning Bloech, executive director of GEI. "GREENGUARD''s new and improved website—and, in particular, its Builders and Owners section—makes understanding and executing those steps easier than ever."
About GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI)
The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute is an industry-independent, third-party, not-for-profit organization that aims to improve human health through programs that reduce people’s exposure to chemicals and other indoor pollutants. The GREENGUARD Building Construction℠ Certification Program uses the ANSI/GEI-MMS1001 standard that’s recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a comprehensive national standard for mold and moisture prevention. All buildings must meet stringent moisture management specifications and undergo multiple on-site inspections, rigorous staff training, and thorough review processes.
