Georgia-Pacific Professional supports tornado relief efforts
ATLANTA — For the past several months, employees at Georgia-Pacific have been busy working to support the tornado victims of Joplin, Missouri, and other Southern states, according to a press release.
To further the relief efforts, Georgia-Pacific, along with other major Atlanta-based companies, took part in an "airlift of support" for Joplin tornado victims this past Monday, June 20, 2011, the release stated.
According to the release, onboard the flight was several thousand pounds of donated items from Georgia-Pacific Professional.
Employee volunteers from The Home Depot''s Atlanta headquarters flew to Joplin, courtesy of Delta Air Lines Inc., to install "Blue Roofs," using blue tarps, over damaged homes and help with debris cleanup, the release noted.
"The Home Depot and Georgia-Pacific have worked together for years to provide families with building products for constructing and remodeling their homes and their communities," said Curley Dossman, president of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation.
"Taking part in this relief effort with Home Depot and other Atlanta companies continues our support for disaster victims in Joplin as they rebuild their community," Dossman added.
