Georgia-Pacific and International Paper buy mill

MILFORD, NJ — Georgia-Pacific Corporation and International Paper have entered into a joint venture to purchase and develop an abandoned Curtis Specialty Papers property, according to the Hunterdon County Democrat.

The $70,000 purchase means both companies accept full responsibility for the cleanup of asbestos, lead and other debris at the mill that has been unoccupied since 2003, the story stated.

Roger Schumer, project manager for Georgia- Pacific, said: "It''s our responsibility; we take our responsibility seriously."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently developing a website detailing the cleanup activities that will soon be available to the public, the story noted.

In addition to renovating the property and bringing it up to code, security will be increased and new lighting and fencing will be installed around the property, the story added.
