Friday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: How do I clean mosaic tiles? Many people insist on using hydrochloric acid. Is this chemical right for cleaning mosaic tiles? If not, what would make them more white and shiny?
It depends on the type of mosaic tile. If marble, or other calcium-based stone, acid would be very harmful. If ceramic or other clay-based tile, try an alkaline solution, followed by agitation and rinse.
