Former Marine recognized for going beyond the call of duty

CARLSBAD, CA — Buena Vista Elementary School''s night custodian, Angel Santiago, has been named Carlsbad Unified School District''s October 2011 Classified Employee of the Month for all his hard work, according to the Carlsbad Patch.

Santiago was nominated for the award by Buena Vista Principal Tina Howard for "taking on responsibilities that benefit our staff, students and school," the article stated.

According to the article, Santiago credits his work ethic to his 20-year career with the U.S. Marines.

"I enjoy my work for the district. I learned in the Marines to do more than I''m supposed to do. That''s what I do at Buena Vista: I do my job, and do more," said Santiago.
