Flooding closes Mariposa County building

October 15, 2009
MARIPOSA, CA — The Mariposa County government center is temporarily closed so cleanup crews can address issues related to flooding from this week''s unusually heavy rains, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
The flooded building, which houses Mariposa County''s building, planning and administration departments, will remain closed until it is returned to its pre-flood condition, the story stated.
About 30 county employees are unable to go to work because the first floor is still covered in several inches of water, prompting concerns from many over the possibility of mold contamination and other health hazards, the story noted.
According to the story, crews ripped up saturated carpets and waterlogged baseboards to expedite cleanup efforts.
It is believed that water from recent storms may have gotten into the building''s electrical system, another cause for concern for employees and other building occupants, the story added.
