The explosion set off the building''s sprinkler system, causing extensive water damage to the two-story complex, the story stated.
DeKalb County Fire Captain Eric Jackson said: "It appears there was some cleaning that was going on utilizing some hydrochloric acid and somewhere in the midst of that there was a reaction that resulted in a small explosion with no fire."
A restoration crew arrived on campus Tuesday night to begin the task of cleaning up; it remains unclear how much the restoration will cost or when the college will be safe for occupation again, the story noted.
Neither of the two students sustained life-threatening injuries, but both underwent chemical decontamination at the scene, the story added.
