Elementary school receives LEED certification

LAKE BLUFF, IL — Lake Bluff District 65 proudly announces that Lake Bluff Elementary School has been granted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Silver level, according to a press release.

Lake Bluff Elementary School, which opened in the fall of 2009, was designed and constructed with U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) guidelines in mind, the release stated.

To help cover the costs of the design, engineering and commissioning of the certification, the Lake Bluff School District was awarded a grant of $100,000 from the Illinois Clean Energy Community (ICE) Foundation and a $75,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), the release noted.

Some sustainable attributes of Lake Bluff Elementary School include: Water efficiency, daylighting, recycling of 95 percent of construction materials and more, the release added.
