EcoLogoTM Launches First Draft of its Hard Surface Cleaners Standard
OTTAWA – EcoLogoTM, one of North America’s most recognizable eco-labels, has released the first draft of its Hard Surface Cleaners Standard for individual and stakeholder comment. The Program is encouraging interested parties to read this first draft standard and to provide feedback by August 30, 2010.
“This EcoLogo standard is being revised to ensure it continues to define environmental leadership for chemical products used to keep indoor and outdoor surfaces safe for human health and the environment,” says Dr. Angela Griffiths, Executive Director of the EcoLogo Program.
The EcoLogo Program develops standards designed to reduce environmental impacts by specifying criteria for: safer chemicals and materials, use of recycled and recyclable materials, and minimizing pollution generated by the production, use and disposal of these products and their packaging. EcoLogo is committed to recognizing a wide variety of environmentally preferable, chemical-based hard surface cleaners including: bathroom cleaners, boat and bilge cleaners, cleaners for cooking appliances, degreasers, dish detergents, general purpose cleaners, industrial cleaners, vehicle cleaners, and window and glass cleaners.
The EcoLogo Program has also made an effort with this standard to achieve greater harmonization with other programs including Green Seal, DfE, GreenGuard, and the Information Based Environmental Label (IBEL) being developed by ISSA.
The stakeholder consultation period for the review of this first draft of the EcoLogo Hard Surface Cleaners Standard will be open for 30 days beginning July 26, 2010. Comments must be received by August 30, 2010. This standards development process is being supported Jack Geibig, Director of the University of Tennessee Center for Clean Products, leaders in the development of environmental product and material standards.
Stakeholders wishing to comment on the review of the EcoLogo standard for Hard Surface Cleaners are requested to contact Shyam Ramrekha at email@example.com or at 1-800-478-0399 ext: 236.
