Ecolab shows off health care focus at APIC conference

June 10, 2009
ST. PAUL, MN — Ecolab Inc. recently announced that it has assembled a roster of renowned infectious disease practitioners for an industry conference, according to the Business Wire.
Members of the newly-formed team are giving presentations on the topics of environmental hygiene and hand hygiene at Ecolab’s booth (# 720) during the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc. (APIC) Annual Conference, which concludes tomorrow in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, reported the article.
The roster includes:
  • Renowned infection control expert Dr. Phillip C. Carling IV, director of infectious diseases and hospital epidemiology at Boston’s Carney Hospital
  • Karen Martin, director of infection control/epidemiology and environmental services for Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois
  • Other noted infection control practitioners.
“Environmental services has too long been overlooked as a method to reduce healthcare acquired infections despite the studies demonstrating that improperly cleaned patient rooms elevate the risk of pathogen transmission,” said Dr. Carling. “Training, education and a systematic approach to cleaning have been shown to reduce environmental contamination, thereby helping to prevent these infections.”
