Ecolab earns 2009 Tekne Green Company award

ST. PAUL, MN — Ecolab Inc. recently announced that it has received the 2009 Tekne Green Company award from the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA), which honors businesses that practice environmental awareness/responsibility and incorporate sustainability into their overall business model, according to a press release.
Ecolab has achieved significant reductions in both energy and water usage in its plants worldwide and the company has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent per dollar sales from 2006 to 2012 as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency''s (EPA) Climate Leaders program, the release stated.
Douglas M. Baker, Jr., Ecolab chairman, president and chief executive officer (CEO), said: "Ecolab has long been an industry leader in sustainability — every day we help our customers reduce waste, conserve water, save energy and improve safety through our concentrated, high-efficiency cleaning products, our technology and our personalized service. We are also committed to sustainable practices in our own operations, and being recognized with the Tekne Green Company award is terrific acknowledgement for practices that are integral to the way we do business."
According to the release, Ecolab has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) certification at the Gold level for its Research, Development and Engineering facilities in Eagan, Minnesota.
Presented by the MHTA in partnership with LifeScience Alley and Enterprise Minnesota, the Tekne Awards annually recognize Minnesota''s best and brightest technology users and developers in innovation, development, education, commercialization and management, the release noted.
With sales of $6 billion and more than 26,000 associates, Ecolab Inc. is a global leader in cleaning, sanitizing, food safety and infection prevention products and services, the release added.
