Downtown janitors reach tentative agreement

August 2, 2010
MILWAUKEE, WI — Janitors represented by the Service Employee International Union Local 1 (SEIU) have reached a tentative two-year agreement with downtown cleaning companies that would preserve health benefits and give cleaners a modest raise while controlling cleaning costs in the downtown business area, according to The Business Journal.
"We''re very pleased with the agreement," said Local 1 bargaining team member Jeryllyn Jeanes, a janitor employed at Performance Clean Inc.
"We didn''t have to give up any health insurance co-pays for the next two years and that''s the most important thing. On the wages, some raise is better than none," Jeanes added.
