June 3, 2009
ST. JOSEPH, MO — The St. Joseph School District handed out its annual "Cleanest Building Awards" earlier this week, according to the News-Press & Gazette.
First place went to the maintenance crew at the district offices, second to Neely Elementary and the maintenance workers at Hillyard Vocational School took third, the story stated.
Roger Wagers, St. Joseph School District maintenance department supervisor, said the competition is an incentive for the workers and not only brings out the best in his 105-member staff but results in cleaner buildings overall.
Hillyard Chemical Company officials judge each building in the district twice a year on grounds, hallways, classrooms, restrooms, air quality and other factors, the story noted.
The "Cleanest Building Awards" have been an annual competition for eight years and the idea has spread throughout the State of Missouri, the story added.
